Magister Vini

The Magister Vini Exam is the highest achievable, officially recognized, Dutch exam in the field of wine. The exam is conducted in the Dutch language. After obtaining the diploma, the internationally protected title “Magister Vini” is awarded. Abroad, the title is always written in full.

A Magister Vini has in-depth knowledge in the field of wine and winemaking and is well aware of the developments on the national and international wine markets, as well as of all social aspects related to the production and consumption of wine. For example, a Magister Vini is considered capable of managing an internationally operating wine import company.

The Stichting Drankenonderwijs owns the title and is responsible for the organisation of the exam. The exam is modular and consists of three organoleptic examens and four theoretical exams. If these parts have been successfully completed, the candidate must write a thesis, the subject of which will be determined in consultation with the Board of Examiners.

Only candidates who have knowledge at SDEN-level 4 (Vinoloog van de Wijnacademie®) or equivalent will be admitted to the exam.
